Starting Out
First things first. This article is for KIDS ONLY. Anyone older that 14, HIT THE ROAD! Take your mouse and click the little red X on the top right corner of your screen. Ok, now that we are with just kids, we can get to work. First thing you need to do is discover what you are saving for. Be it clothes or a flat screen, you need to know the price of your goal to know what type of way you want to save. If you are going for something in the thousands, the first thing you need to know is PATIENCE. We are too young to go out and get a job, (at least one that pays well enough that its worth it) so we save money slowly through work. I am going to go through a few simple differant things you can do in summer and winter, outside and inside, to make some cash. This hub is Part 1. I will be covering how to do a great Yard Sale. Look for my other hubs for other jobs in other seasons. Lets get started!
Spring or Summer--Yard Sale
Lets start out with something that might be a little fun for some of you. I am going to take you through some steps to have a great yard sale that isn't full of junk.
Step one: Get a few big garbage bags and label them so your parents don't throw them out. Then, (check with your parents first) go around your house and get any clothes, toys, video games, pretty much any nic nac you can find that isn't completely worthless. Shove it all in the bags and keep it there until the night before your big sale.
Step two: Call your local newspaper and place an add that has your address and a few of your best selling items typed up in it. Also make sure to put in a time (the earlier the start the better). This will pull in a lot of people who are hanging around bored reading the paper.
Step three: Find either a room, an empty garage, basically anywhere that can become a complete mess and not need to be cleaned that night. Dump everything you have in the garbage bag out on the floor and organize it. Put all the toys in a bin, all the clothes in a bin, etc, etc. Then decide what type of condition it is all in. Are the clothes torn, worn, or patched? Are the toys broken, chipped, or dead? Once that is decided, put a good, not-to-high price on the bin. Make sure you take all the highest quality things out and put a higher price on them.
Step four: Wake up about 45 minutes before your sale is scheduled to start. Go to where you organized everything the night before and take it out to either your front yard, driveway, or garage. Set it up where nothing is hiding behind anything else, and make sure it is all easily accessible to your customers. For example, don't put a table holding lots of stuff right next to a huge mud puddle. Then set up a table and chair for you. Add a box to hold money and bring lots of old plastic grocery bags to offer if someone buys so much they cant carry it.
Step five: Have fun making money! Also, watch out for early birds. They may come while you are still setting up. If this happens, just let them look around while you finish. And by the time the afternoon comes, if you still have a lot of stuff to sell, make a deal that they can buy whatever they can put in a grocery bag for $5.00 or something like that so you can just get rid of it before you have to close. HAVE FUN!!
